Our home is one of the few remaining Greek-Revival-Italianate
structures in the area, and was the original home of Lumber Baron Wm.
Carson and his family before and during the construction of the world
famous Carson Mansion, headpiece of Eurekas' Old Town National
Historic District and one of Americas most ornate and photographed
Victorian buildings.
It is built of Virgin Redwood and Douglas Fir, the outside walls being
almost five inches of one inch redwood planks laid one on one
vertically and horizontally. During a recent renovation we measured
one plank that was 34 feet long, one inch thick, and 28 inches wide!
Quite a board! The building was erected in 1871, when wood was
virtually free. Uniquely constructed, no two bedrooms share a common
wall; privacy and quiet assured.
Newly renovated, we sport six guest rooms with any bed and/or bath
arrangement that you may desire. Our decor combines period wallpapers
and antiques, original works of art, and a touch of whimsey denoting
the fun-loving nature of the Innkeepers. Every bed has its own
Teddy-bear, and all the clawfoot tubs come complete with
rubber-duckies and bubble-bath. The result is a uniquely warm and
friendly ambience. One major guidebook writer described our inn as "..the
quintessential bed & breakfast." We were members of the
American B&B Assn from 1992-96 with a three-crown (excellent)
rating; have a 2 star Mobile travel guide rating; are certified by the
California Assn. of B&B;Inns; and are members of the Professional
Association of Innkeepers International, and the Eureka Chamber of
Commerce. And we're the only B&B in Eureka with an outdoor teak
HOT-TUB.
We serve a full four-course Country Gourmet breakfast that is
guaranteed to keep you hiking in the Redwoods 'til well after lunch
time! Heart-healthy alternatives are a specialty (Diane is a
Cardiovacular Clinical Nurse Specialist; her credentials include RN,
M.Ed., M.S. -- you are in good hands). We publish our own cookbook and
all meals include some of Diane's Blue-Ribbon winning RECIPES ! (a
total of 21 blue ribbons at the Humboldt County Fair in the last 3
years).
